Acrylic Sump Fabrication
I need a 14" x 14" by 20"H sump.
Anyone know someone that makes custom acrylic for a good (low) price?

Give Andy a call @ http://www.myreefcreations.com/
I know he's building nano cubes close to that size and may do custom work for you.

I'm looking for about an 80 gallon sump also. I have tried Andy, but it will take at least 3 weeks. Also tried another manufactor that deals with wholesale only and he's about that far out as well. The only other think I can think of is there's someone out of Texas that can built pretty much anything, but shipping is really high. Maybe if we all ordered together and had them shipped together if would be cheaper. The link to this guy is: http://www.melevsreef.com/allmysumps.html. Check it out and let me know

I can do wonders with acrylic . but I dont know how to build a sump if some one can show me what you need I can help you out. I have not been in this hobby very long. but I've been working with acrylics for 8 years or so. Courtesy of my last hobby.

I got Brian and Guy at Petland to build my sump. Great cost and good work. I can't wait to get my Powerbuy LR and get my new tank started.

Sorry for the late response - I just joined and saw this.
I would very highly recommed this guy:
Vince Higgins Higgins Plastic Work
581 Birchwood Rd.
Marietta, GA 30060 / Residential
770-434-0000 (w)
770-805-9096 (f)
I've had two acrylic sumps made by him, and he does the best custom acrylic work I've seen at very reasonable prices. It's a basement operation, but I'd definitely work with him again rather than going through a commercial shop.
IIRC, I was charged around $120 for my last sump- just a basic 28"x12"x12" box drilled with dividers.

Just as an asside, I came across many sites for how to build these and it really does not seem that it is prohibitive for someone to do themselves. The cost is extremely cheap, and it could be fun to learn to work with the stuff. To be honest it really doesn't seem difficult. The main thing is looking for a source, but in Atlanta that should not be too hard to find. Here is one site I found particularly interesting, but GARF has some as well.

Hope it helps.

The key (that I've found out from trying to do it myself) is getting all your edges very straight and smooth for bonding. I chatted to the guy above for a while when I picked up my sump, and he said that he shoots for < 3/10,000ths" deviation on his edges to get a good bond. (although I have no idea how he measures it...).
Yes, it can be done yourself. Yes, it'll be cheaper. But I don't trust my acrylic work to hold 20 gallons over the long term, and would rather pay a little more for the peace of mind. If it's not holding water or a non critical piece, I say do it yourself. Otherwise, hire it out.
Just my opinion...
