Acros at CBA!
Hi,
It's Friday afternoon and I just got home from CBA. They have 100+ Acros of all kinds/colors. Some Aquacultured and some Wild. I would definately take a look. Great selection.
Beat the Crowd for the best stuff! Happy Reefing!
Pam

Picked up a nice pale green- blue acro. Aquacultured, $100. They have some blue acro's (but not Purple Monster in color!!!) for $120 and some other for $80.
Then a real good selection of wild acro's too.
The may not serve coffee there, but still one of the best selections for us northerners....

nice stuff, but watch their salinity
CBA's got a nice selection of acros in!.. picked up several myself... but becareful and take time acclimating these guys. CBA keeps their corals in 1.020 salinity (according to my refractometer)!

I went Fri night. Bobby said they ordered 300 new corals. Not sure if that means all 300 is in there, or if the order is being split, but I'd agree that there is *easily* over 100 new SPS on display. I'd guess that probably 15-20% is aquacultured, the rest are wild. I've never seen so many SPS in one store. I didn't bite on the aquacultured, but there are some nice ones (but more expensive). For price examples, the corals I have pics of below were $49.99 each. They are on sale so no further ARC discount. My camera doesn't do them justice. Overall good deals though....
Also, as someone else mentioned, they have hundreds of the tiniest clams I've ever seen for cheap (I think he said $25-30, but don't hold me to it).
He said I was the 6th ARC member in there after PamsReef asking about the new shipment (at ~6:00).

If you look carefully you will notice one of the two crabs making their home in this acro...

We were at CBA today... veeery nice Acro frags, but Bobby says our tank isn't ready for that yet. We got one of the bright green Candy corals and a nice yellow Toadstool Leather. One of the heads on the Candy went Salvador Dali on us though -- did we damage it?

man i wish i lived closer....i love that store...and it is really refreshing hearing about a lfs doing something unatural like asking a new tank owner to wait. that kind of business/ecology minded ethic directs my spending towards them.

Although when I first read this, I thought you were referring to the yellow Sarcophyton (which would normally do this if the water is substantially different after transport), it is the Caulastrea spp ( CandyCane coral) that I take is having problems. Occasionally Caulastrea spp will sustain damage in either transport or positioning such that the septa of the skeleton will cut through enough tissue to cause that part of the colony to die. Unless it is some type of pathogenic bacterial infection (which would usually affect all of the heads), then the rest of the colony will be fine. As always, check your water parameters, and posting a listing of your tank set up will help us supply you with more info (but in a separate thread as to not hijack this one!). Damage is usually limited to one phaceloid stalk, and removal of the skeletal stalk is not necessary, as the tissue may regenerate from the spaces between the septa if algae does not colonize the remaining bare skeleton. Once this colony stabilizes, it is easily fragged by removing a single stalk and allowing it to grow and develop into a new cluster of stalks (slow but very nice!).
