Acro Crabs Know Their Home Colony!

I bought a small acro colony last weekend. Prior to my standard Interceptor dip, I removed an acro crab and placed it in an existing colony on the left hand side of my tank.

After treating my newly acquired acro for 6 hours, I placed the acro in my 30g softie tank for a day. The following day, I moved it to my 125 on the far right hand side. Overnight, the acrocrab that I placed in a colony on the far left hand side moved back to it's original home colony. Amazing!

these guys will normally do that and get " Comfy" in a home . You gotta remember most of them find a colony and stay in it there entire life til someone picks them out or the pass on to that great clamshell in the sky.. I had a colony that had a pair in it that spawn and there was about 5 baby crabs in it til the female took them to another place in the tank.. At that point they found there own new homes.

Did the crab have little red shoes that he was clicking together while chanting, "There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home..." Sounds like another fascinating example of how little we really know about our marine ecosystems!

For our anniversary my wife bought me a copy of the newly released "Marine Biology" by Castro and Huber. Ashame I couldn't afford to buy her your car in return
