Everything was going fine -----------
But then came the Ice Storm
Power went out for 48 hours. The electric company kept telling us they would get the power back on shortly but they didn't. I did have a battery powered backup air pump but my house is total electric so there was no heat for what turned into 48 hours. If I had know I would have given my corals away.
The tanks were still looking good after 24 hours but they couldn't handle 48 hours at approx 50 degrees. Most everything wiped out.
58 gal tank with a few corals and shrimp wiped out completey.
My 5 year old sons 7 gal minibow with live rock and 2 small fish he bought with his X-mas money gone.
My 10 gal Nano tank fully stocked to the brim with corals gone.

This tank had approx 30 corals and was kickin butt big time. Some of these corals I had been growing for approx 3 years. A
candy cane coral that went from 2 polyps to 35 polyps. A branching frog spawn that went from 2 polyps to 9 polyps. The list could go on and on.
I am really bummed.
So for the last couple of days I have been cleaning out tanks. What I salvaged I put back into my 10 gal Nano as it has a solid oak custom stand and hood. Out of everything the only thing salvaged was 3 pieces of LR, 3 gulf of mexico corals (maybe time will tell) and one small
gorilla crab (you can't kill them if you wanted to). I think the reason the gulf of mexico corals survived was that the gulf at times gets cold streaks and biologically they are more hardy corals able to handle extremes.
OK so this really sucks. The 58 gal in wall tank is going to be my sons tarantula home since he survived the cold also.
I will have a bunch of equipment for sale soon and will make a separate post.
For all those who graciously contributed corals which are now gone (I only bought a few most were aquired frags) I must express my sincerest gratitude. For a while I am going to keep it simple with the 10 gal nano and a couple of small fish.
I do have a really nice slide presentation of my 10 gal Nano in all its glory that is 95% complete. At least I have that to rememeber this fine tank by. As soon as I complete this presentation I will post a link for your viewing pleasure.
Peace Out ---- Charles
