90 gallon lighting

I already have 220 watts of vho lights to put on top. I was thinking of a singe 250W halide bulb in the middle of the tank. I am going to pile all of my rock in the center of the tank and leave plenty of room on the bottom for a clam or two. Will this work until I can add another 250W halide? I think it will look rather cool. It will just spot light the reef and my shrooms and low light corals can be under the vhos on either side of the tank since they are low light. I will place all the sps and clams under the halide bulb. Does anyone use a single bulb on there tank? I am really afraid of the heat issues and the power increse so I would like to start out slow. Since I am only using one should I go with a 400 watter? Or will that melt my torch?

Also if I mount this bulb in the center of the tank 12" above the water line, will it melt the center brace of my tank, or cause it to get brittle and break on down the road. I know it will probably bleach it out.

Thanks

Clay

I wouldn't mount it over the center brace. I would be afraid that the heat would melt it or the UV would make it brittle like you said.

Yeah that is what I thought to chad....Guess I need to explain to the Mrs that i need to invest more money than just one halide. I just went out and bought my sump today. Its a 30 gallon perfecto tank traded some xenia frags and 40 bucks to under the wave for it so I think it was a good deal. I had to take out my center brace to fit it in the stand. Chad isn't your sump a 30 gallon....What size did you have your partitions cut?

Thanks
Clay

I need to stop flushing my xenia and trade it in to under the wave

Umm... yeah my sump is 30g....I have in sperated into two sections 1/3 of the length and the othersetions is 2/3 of th length...if that makes since.

I wouldn't put in baffles until you know what equipment you are going to put in. Make sure it all fits first.
