65g Tank Stand Design

Well, I've decided to build a new stand for my 65g. I built the current one, but it doesn't have enough storage or any room for an auto top-off, plus after looking at Steve's (countertopguy) at RC, I got stand lust. After a couple of emails w/ him, he told be about a program called sketchup, and I downloaded it to design the stand. Construction will begin as soon as I'm done with the dresser I'm building for my wife...

The design is pretty simple, it will be built w/ 2x4s and skinned w/ a combination of lumber and finish ply. The base is one solid unit at 5' x 2' x 3' and the units to the left and behind the tank's spot are built separately and attached to the base... the top is there for astetic reasons and will not be built out of 2x4s, but i put it there to give more continuity to the design.

take a look...

Very cool! Thanks for sharing that. I'll go try out sketchup myself.

Cheers!

Huh? Their site says 8 hours? Do you know of anywhere to get it for a discount? $500 is pretty spendy...

Heh - too true! I did find some stuff in Google regarding 20% off, but that's to trade groups, etc. I imagine they'd be wanting an actual volume order to do even that much. Don't think we'll get too many interested takers even at 400. Heh.

Or just download the trial, use it for 8 hours. Remove the program and clear the registry entries it leaves. Redownload it and 8 more hours later repeat.

What program are you guys talking about? I'd like to get a drawing/drafting program where I can "flesh" out future ideas too.
