HI Gang,

I've got this strange feeling that this bi-weekly is intended to head toward the SPS / LPS debate and whether or not stony corals should be categorized by these over-generalized names... Or am I reading too much into it only four posts in?

not sure about the sand bed names, but as far as the lps/sps debate, they are pretty much very general terms that help hobbyists know general care for corals, but they sure arent a good way to divide the corals, and there are also many corals that fall between the lines, and show characteristics of both genre, what really gets to me is the extreme prices being generated by giving a coral a "cool" name, and calling it rare, or LE. some of these corals may be worth a bit more, simple from being tank raised and fragged for many generations, they are much hardier, and sometimes more colorful. but 300/polyp, or for a 1/2 inch frag is a little much imo.

i was not thinking of the LPS /SPS naming but that is a good start.

another thing to think about too.
how many times have you seen a coral called ......... and you research it and it is also called........... and if you knew that it would have sved you time on researching it...

How about common name vs scientific name & species vs color morph?
