LOL I call it, "Spousal Veto Power" (SVP for short...)

It's the bane of my existance! Oh the stuff I could sell if not for the disapproving spouse....

I tell them, it's easier to ask for forgiveness, rather than permission -- sometimes it works, more often it doesn't!

For me its the power of the kids.

We have a three year old girl who LOVES my fish tank.

We have a 7 month old boy who will just stare at the fish mezmorised for as long as he is in front of the tank.

Besides, she loves the hobby just as much as I do. Just as long as she doesn't have to put her hands in the tank.

Also, it is a well known fact that hobbies are very healthy for people and relationships (not that we can catagorize this as a hobby - it has gone way past that).

most times, i take the wife along on my spending trips,,,,'specially on livestock runs...no probs there,,,,
On some things, i just say I need a check,,,,and tell her what i need to get,,,and sometimes a lil extra,,,,most times no probs,,,,

On the big $$ items,,,, I work it in the conversation,,let it stew for a bit,,,
then remind her again,,,,
Her response most times is: "We spent a lot of $$$ on this stuff, makes sense to spend $$ on keeping it "happy n healthy"

That's how i got the green light on upgrading the lights on the 75,,,to a Hamilton retro MH/PC ,,,from normal flo's,,,She got tired of me saying at the LFS,,,"no dear, we can't get "that" cuz we don't have enuf light to have it survive"

Most times i have no problems when it comes to clearance from the "tower"
just lucky i quess,,,,

As long as I stick to my monthly budget, I'm ok. I'm lucky that she loves those "little nemos." Keeping the tank beautoful makes the SAF go up. Doing a water change when I'm supposed to be getting ready to go to her parents' for dinner makes it go down. Go figure.

I have an allowance. If I want to go over I just find some of your pictures and show them to her and say "it can look like that". She says ooohhh and aahhhh and lets me do it.

Welcome to TRT!!!

this also works for me. our two year old loves looking at the tank. of course we have a clown in the tank that is his height! according to him though its name is memo, has trouble with the "N".

I just let Christy take all of my clean up crew, gave her two tanks with her choice of everything, and let her pick out the fish for my FOWLR tank...oh and do all the tank maintenance and water changes on her tank. Also I slaved over curing my rock and then gave half of it up to kick start her tanks from day one. Works like a charm
