The birth of the beast

Ok I hope it works this time, lol. I thought I would share a few pics of the progress on the fishroom/new tank thingy with ya all.

After the tank came out I started to rip and tear out a few walls . Gave me a chance to reroute some wiring and plumbing and set up for the new beast

wall gone beam in, and the wiring and plumbing begin.

the octopus (what a mess it was) and put in a couple of evac fans one a builting timer to help with condensation and moisure

Here is the begining of the stand. Damm thing almost killed me . it must weight 500+ lbs

Starting to close up the walls. I used the chip baord for backing and will cover with some hospital paneling.

lol Spanky not quite the words Lorena uses, but same overall meaning

Yea I think I went a bit overkill on the stand. 4 X 10's morticed with 8 inch galv lag bolts holding them together then 2x4 running as cross bracing and wrapped in 1/2 hip board. let me tell ya if you ran into it with your car the car would lose

Doug thats why you should have had the birds eye view, while assembling.

I have almost got it all complete, but it looks like the tank wont be ready this weekend so probibly the next.

thanks

mike

I think you need to reinforce that stand a little more there Mike

I'm probably the only one that will say I'm kinda glad the tank isn't ready yet. I'm not sure I'm ready for all that fun yet

Looks awesome so far. Can't wait to see the tank set in and water in it. You should be able to fit at least 3 fish in that tank Mike

Keep me posted on when the install party is. I'll stupervise again.

not that it really matters, but the 2x4's are not oriented right for maximum load strength, but with that chipboard on it, it really would not matter.
looking great so far! one heck of an undertaking.

Geoff as junk said the 2x4's are just thier to hold the front to back panels.
I tell ya when I designed the tank I really couldnt get a feel for how big it was....well now I dooooo....to see the size in person is pretty scary. with the L shape having 2 eight foot faces...man oh man.

I got the room all complete now I will try to get some more pics up fo all to see.

Casey the tank is around 635 gallons and about a 1000 with all the sumps/refugiums/sandbeds and son on attached.

Gee Mike, only 1000 gallons??? That would make water changes easy though... 20% water change = a 200 gallon IO bucket and water. I would love to come up if need more volunteers, just let us know when the day comes.

Oh, by the way, does this mean we make roach our beer gopher?? Looks great Mike!

Mike, if you have a chance, I would consider outlining/reinforcing the stand with EXTREN I-beams (pultruded fiberglass-reinforced polyester). Very cool so far.
