Birth of the beast Part II
well JOhn at Innovative Aquarium Products sent over some pics of the tank being built so I thought I would share. I really have to give John cudos for doing a great job and sharing the process at me, So I will recommend that if ya need a tank, sump, refugium or likewise you check him out.
Anyway here is a pic of the coast to coast averflow getting glues inot place.
Here is the front acrylic peices, I know John had nothing but nice things to say about humping those peices around.
and here is the all the back glued together

thanks for sharing. i really like the idea of a coast to coast overflow. will each side be seperated in the middle or will be connected together.
i can not wait to see the piece/s used to make the bottom.
do you know if it will be one piece or two.

Heya Mike
That is looking vAry g00d!
Your overflow design looks less like the standard coast-to-coast model and more like the waveless overflows used in olympic competition swimming pools to keep the lanes from becoming choppy during races. What a nifty way to handle moving a ton of water and keep some valuable tank realistate. Is this a design you have used before, or is it something you and your builder came up with?
Thanks for the pics! These larger than life reef builds are a blast to follow! Rock on! =)

Hey guys thanks for the replys. The overflows are something I designed about 4 years ago and this is the third tank I have had it installed on. The key however is to have a builder that has the skill to do them properly and is willing to take customizing to the next level, so again cudous to IAP.
The overflows will be all connected, thier is a overflow box on the middle corner that connects the 2 sides together. What it does is pull the whole top of the water off the tank evenly. This makes for great air transfer, and has absolutly no dead spots on the surface. If a flake is dropped on the top of the water it takes less than a second for it to be in the overflow. Also as casey mentioned it frees up a ton of realestate in the tank, with out comprimise.
On the bottom it will be out of 2 peices that are seamed together. the second peice is small and only covers the small portion of the short L.

And the hits keep coming.
I have been called a roach, a human squeegee, a real sucker....what next? I tell you, volunteer to help a friend and look what happens.
Wait...Mike...you said this was a slightly larger tank. That thing looks like it belongs in the Seattle Aquarium display
I hope you figured out how to remove that sliding door to fit this beast in. I'd hate to have to remove an outer wall just to bring the beast inside
Should be a fun day.

Rick its looking like tommorrow, but its going to be a last minute call this afternoon. John will not let the tank out of the shop until all is perfect and I cant argue with that. I just called him and he said that his boys had to duck tape him to a dolley just so he could straighten out his back. Thiers another big favor I owe someone
keep your fingers crossed

Well here are a few more pics.
First one is a pic of my DIY (with help) Calcium reactor...man you know this is all starting to look like monster garage for reefs
And this one all reefers know the answer to. WHat do u do when u get a bunch of extra space behind the tank?? YOu stuff it full of equipment so you cant move around in it
