Big tanks.. BEFORE...

Here's a link to pix of the 2 big tanks I've been talking about... I took these pix in about June of 2002. The 1000 looked Friday, very much like it did in the picture, except the crushed coral had been replaced with live sand. The 1200 experienced a crash sometime in 2002, the corals were lost, and many of the fish, but some of the fish in the picture, survived. The 1200 was blowing bubbles as its water level was low when I snapped the pic. Summer evaporation...

The 1000 pic is looking at the narrow end, 6'. It goes 8' back and is 34 inches deep.

The 1200 (bought by another customer of ours), is 12' x 4' x 43"

LOL that's what Joe kept saying when he and Karen went to see them! Joe and Karen bought the 1200.

Fish did fine - all are alive and kicking. We lost one in the move. Even the corals and anemones are coming back, although I think we will lose one BTA.

This week/next weekend, the peripherals will be pulled and cleaned up... the 19th will be moving day and the fun REALLY begins.

I ordered a pallet of salt

Scott whacked his head on the ceiling a few times, standing on a household step-type ladder (the kind with 3 steps and a paint bucket shelf). I offered to turn on the ceiling fan and give him a haircut The basement ceilings seemed a bit shorter than standard, but perhaps not... the tank was 34" tall, the stand was maybe 30-36" tall.

Surprisingly, it wasn't too hard for him to reach in and maneuver stuff with long tongs. He pulled most of the rock that way. The previous owner used to "stomp grapes" -- he'd get his shoes off and get in... I don't think we'll need to go that far. He had a heavy-duty magnet but we didn't find it in our rummagings the other night, he had one on the 1200, but it's not a floating kind. I might have to buy a "Tiger Shark Float" or a "Great White" for it... I don't think the Great White floats though, even though it's a larger magnet. I think if it's kept clean it won't be as hard. I have cleaned the 1200 on one occasion, just before I took the pix. I have a "before cleaning" pic of the 1200 -- my hair got wet cleaning that monster - hadn't had a water change in 2 years Nitrates were way off the scale. Tank crashed shortly after - don't ignore water changes!!!

Doing a water change shouldn't be a big deal... we have a 120 GPD RO/DI and 2 x 100 gallon water vats. Probably do a 60 g change per week, instead of a 120 every other. No danger of overstocking too soon - I can already hear the sucking sounds out of my wallet

I forgot the camera at home -- must try to remember to snap a pic of "Spike" the HUGE Volitan... he's soooo cute, sooo large... he's spent the last couple of days, "People watching".

We also inherited a gorgeous school of six Monos... I've heard these are brackish, but they have been living in a reef tank for about 6 years now. They are awesome! They will be going into the 1000. Spike probably won't, I want to keep some small fishes in that tank, and Spike can eat anything smaller than an average yellow tang!
