wet/dry setup?

cheers to everyone it's friday......

Does anyone have the spec on everything I would need for a wet/dry setup below my 75gal set-up, I need to know everything
what sizes and also can I use the skimmer that I have now(seaclone) inside the wet/dry setup instead of using it as a hang on filtration type?

hmm, well you would need the wet dry.. most come with everything yo uneed (external overflow, drain line, bioballs, foam filters, and return line from pump to tank)

i'm not sure if a hang on skimmer could be used, since it's meant to be at water level, and you dont want a wet/dry or sump water level to be all the way to the brim.

btw: you got a pm..

I'm curious as to why wet-dry instead of one of the systems that have come along after the wet-dry?

I sure would not recommend using a wet-dry filter. I think the bio-balls are bound to cause trouble with high nitrates. I think most people that are using them nowadays have stripped them down to just use them as a sump. They are unnecessarily expensive to purchase for use as a sump. If your tank is going to be a reef, avoid the wet-dry.

however, many people still agree that a wet dry is good for a FO or FOWLR..

i agree on the bioballs. my wet dry is currently running without bio balls. my new tank, when finished, will not have a wet dry, but rather a regular sump.

a wet dry, with the bio balls removed, is essentially a sump.

OK I can see the balls in a W/D on a swim tank, but a FOWLR is dumbly redundant, IMO . You pay out the nose for a prefab wet/dry and rock isnt cheap so you are paying too much in my estimation. Most people who have FO are going to max bioload most likely so even with Live Rock, you will still need to do regular water changes esp if its a big aggressive tank.
How about this scenario for an aggressive swim tank;
Some Rock forming tunnels and caves
Closed loop for decent circulation, little or no substrate
Overflow drains thru filter pad then trickles down bio ball tower feed into
an algae chamber with approx half or better the tanks foot print passing on to a Big honking Beckett style skimmer
Flow thru rate about 4-500 gph, so what if the skimmer reskims water 2x before it goes back to the display
OK its a modified ***system setup without the Topango wet real estate and using a serious skimmer
