Question

Can you mix types of live sand?

Is it better to use only one kinds of live sand when starting out the tank - or can you mix say....Aragamax (arganonite) with Bermuda Pink or Fiji, etc.....????

If the sands are significantly different in size/diameter, the smaller will eventually end on the bottom of the sandbed. In general, the energies on reefs highly sort sand so that most of it is around the same size for an entire area of common energy.

I have a mix of small crushed coral & fiji sand- sand was added on top of crushed coral. Crushed coral tends to stay at the bottom. Thats with the Cleaning crew working full time. Good luck

As chris pointed out substrates of differing sizes will tend to stratify, normally the finest particles will settle between everything else and on up till the chunkiest is on top.Thats assuming you havve a low flow rate system going, higher flows and velocities will wreak havoc on finer particles, keeping the fines suspended
However addressing the question as asked originally LIVE SAND will co mingle with LIVE SAND from different areas just fine
