Fuji 3800 digital camera
Anybody have this camera and if so can you post some pics of your tank. I was thinking of getting this camera today but the guy at bestbuy told me there would be a 15% restocking charge if I wasn't happy with the pictures I can go to circuit city and get it and not pay a restock charge if I am not happy, but I really don't like to do that. I very rarely ever return stuff I buy /shrug.

What is the price, megapixels, and optical zoom (not digital zoom)? I've been doing a lot of such "shopping" lately myself...
As usual, the best prices are on the Internet, which is where I usually purchase expensive tech-type items.

Shirley,
It has the following
3.2 mega pixels
6x optical zoom
3x digital zoom (think)
macro button
The cost is 399 at circuit city
I can find it as low as 299 on the internet with an average of 25 bucks to ship.
I will be getting it a circuit city just because they have a no hassle return policy. Plus most places I found the camera at that was a good price would only ship to the credit card holders address and its not practical to ship to the house being in and out all the time.

3.2 megapixels is all you'll need for 8x10 and even 12x16. 6x optical zoom is excellent. I never use the digital zoom b/c it just enlarges pixels and gives the impression of zooming in, so you lose quality in the photo even though it is closer/larger.
The price is good, too, and if it were me I'd order online so long as the site has a good rating. I've purchased photo/video/computer equipment B&H Photo, and ecost.com. There are a lot of good places to choose from. The warranties are good, but you don't get the extended warranty that circuit city will try to sell you.
It's also a good camera brand. I am looking for an Olympus and that is what my son shoots with, but I have a Fuji FinePix 1300, which is what I use to post my pics here unless Troy is home; then I use his camera (2.3 megapixel, 3x optical zoom; mine is 1.3 megapixel, no zoom)
If you get it, show us some pics!

Shirley,
nextag.com was my first stop and found some great deals. I have purchased stuff from amazon.com and I can say nothing but good thing, a great place to shop online.

I found this site to be helpful when I was trying to decide which camera to get:

be very carefull when buying electronics over the internet. there are a lot of grey market stuff out there. these have those very good prices, but they do not come with any kind of a warranty. when ordering just make sure it comes with at least the manufacturers warranty and you should be fine. gray market are cameras produced for different countries, usually japan, but are shipped here. no warranties is how you can tell.

Whooops!!
The below was posted too late! It seems, hooked has already bought his Finepix3800!! Wahoooo!
http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/sh...threadid=13944
hehe, I remember steve's-digicams...
I relied on it heavily towards buying a low-end Finepix A201 late in 2001. My main objection is that the website pulls its punches a LOT.
Since then I've had the pleasure of using the 3800 for stretches (when my brother isn't using his, hehehe).
It can eat up battery power like nobody's business when you are just starting ---do not be disheartened. It's easy to get the hang of the LCD menu and cut down your programming time ---which to my mind is a major cause of battery drain, keeping the LCD screen on too long while fiddling with settings, along with overusing the camera as a video PLAYER and pic VIEWER
The 6x OPTICAL (not fake-digital) zoom is just simply great work.
As far as color rendition goes, Fuji has a slight weak spot when it comes to greens ---the filters seem to have some difficulty distinguishing between certain subtle shades. Then again, I only whine about that because I photograph LOTS of algae in macro.
I'm not a big fan of the xD-format memory card: the darn things are too small, and I already have a hard time with misplaced SmartMedia cards. I found the supplied 16Mb card is barely sufficient, unless you upload to 'puter very often.
If you are buying the camera online, make very, very sure ALL accessories AND freebies are included (recharger, adapter, cables, free 4-pack of batteries, etc.). Dunno about US distribution, but Fuji likes to throw in free stuff like a chamois leather soft-case, even more extra batteries and the like, here in the Far East, which can easily be omitted by the online seller. aybe you can check with an official Fuji outlet to find out what they ought to be including.

hooked,
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/c...tegory_id=4005
check there... yes i know it's dell, but they have the best pricing, 10% off till the 13th and also free shipping... and if you're like me ... you live in a state where tax doesn't apply... if you decide to get the cam, you can't beat the deal
hope this helps... and there are many others to chose from up there if you've found a review of one you've liked better...
i work at ingram micro, it's a large comp company, i do techincal support for servers... so i'm into the digital imagining side of things... but... i do know that the larger the apiture (size of the lens hole) on the lens the more light get in the cam and ultimatly the better the pic, this camera that you listed should work great in high-med light situations... but may produce pixilated pictures in low light... just a warning... i've always been of fan of olympus and nikon.... or for ease of use kodak.... those three would be my reccomendations to you.
oh and btw... 3mps is more than enough unless you were planning on doing wall art of your fishy's
