Hi, my name is Doug

With the influx of new members I thought this would be a good time to welcome everyone. If I neglected to greet you personally I apologize. I thought this would be a good time to do one of those who are you threads.
So I'll start off, muy name is Doug Gee and I am one of the administrators of this BB. I have been involved in the little board this evolved from since about feb of 99. Origianally it was a small board on Brookes website. Me and a few others started hangin out there and helped out where we could. After having seen epic flame wars on the big boards it was kinda nice to find a safe haven and help new reefers recover from LFSitis.
Tho the board grew and we eventually went with the UBB format we use now, it has always been oriented towards begining reefers and a hassle free atmosphere. Rules are fairly simple, its a family board( we have a few kids that read) and always treat others as you want to be treated. Everyone is welcome to their opinion but flaming and personal attacks dont fly. We have some very experienced reefers who come by and lend a hand, for which I am eternally grateful and have aquired several moderators from varied backgrounds who devote a lot of time to make this a successful board. I will let them introduce themselves as they have time to reply. I myself have been into SW tanks since 1975 and transitioned to reefs about 4 years ago> Iatarted with a 29 FO that evolved into a reef, then a wide 55 and now I have a 75 with the 55 as a sump. Enough about me, please introduce yourselves, its nice to know who makes up the reef tank BB

Hi Doug! :-)

My name is Phil, and I'm a Reefaholic. LOL. Anyways, I thought I'd introduce myself a little. Eventhough I haven't posted NEARLY as much as Doug there, I've been around on this board for a while. I'm not even sure when, but I remember the board used to be in an all-text board.

I actually only started into saltwater about 2 years ago. Started off with a 10 gallon, which quickly grew into a 20, then currently at a 40 gallon point. See the trend? Anyways... my next tank is a 150. I got the tank, stand, 95% of the equipment, now i'm waiting for the 5% and then it will be put together.

I'll take some pictures soon so you'll see what it looks like now and what the new tank will look like.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Ted Losey and I have been in and out of the hobby for about ten years. I am from Maine, but I am living in the Washington DC area right now while I do an internship at the National Institutes of health. I am a volunteer scuba diver at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, a job that lets me dive in two quarter-million gallon aquariums. My personal tanks include a 75 gal reef that is at my folks house in Maine and a 10 gal nano-reef that I have in my house in Maryland. My other interests include skiing (snow or water), photography, diving, and trying to keep my '71 Toyota Land Cruiser running. Feel free to stop by and take a look at my web site at www.members.tripod.com/thlosey

Hi all!

I'm one of those "moderators from varied backgrounds" that Doug mentioned. I've been a moderator on the board for a little over a year. Kept FW tanks on and off since I was a wee lass of 9. This last go round, and my move to SW all started with goldfish my kids won at the county fair!

My 55 reef has been set up going on three years and my 17 nano on my desk at work has been set up for a little over two.

I work in property management for my day job but work at an LFS part time to keep my corals and fish in kibbles, so to speak.

Nice to have so many new members and many thanks to all our members for making this a great place to learn about our hobby!

My name is Mark, and I'm a computer geek at "the" original computer company to pay for my addiction. I've had tanks for 10 years or so, mostly fresh since I had a salt tank go belly up early on. But about a year or so ago, after moving to the ocean, I got a 20 high for about six months, moved into a 75 for about six months and just moved into a 120. I think I'll stop for a while...

I consider myself lucky to live by the sea, and I greatly enjoy my little corner of it in my living room and look forward to getting into diving this year.

I was sure that anything this expensive and addicting was illegal... I keep waiting for the ATF to kick my door down and grab my protein skimmer...

Thanks Doug. I don't know how I found this pearl of a site but it is a keeper.

I've done freshwater on and off for 30 years. From breeding guppies to aggressives and on and on.
I started a 55 FOWLO saltwater back in 87 and kept it going for 5 years until my 3 year old dropped his battery powered locomotive in the sump. which got lodged and camo'd in the chemi pure bags. All fish died except my snowflake morray, Flame Hawk, Ariga Butterfly, Purple Tang, Rainbow Wrasse and an Emperor Angel. The tank was great and even survived a move from NJ to NH and lived on until the accident.
I just finished setting up a 125 and am looking forward to going mainly a reef with some purty lil fish to keep "everyone" happy.

8 kids, 8 horses amn 2 dogs...*grin*

Oh yea, I'm the Web Administrator for a large ecommerce site.

Well Hello Doug! (BG) I am another one of those Administrators around here, I have about 2 years of experience in Reef Keeping, I have another 2-3 Years in freshwater keeping, although I currently have no fw tanks. I took over the board about a year ago, and since that time, I have been doing basically the background stuff around here. There is more to be done, as if it would ever end, and so the background stuff is always on going. Doug, Alice, Horge, FishDaddy, Bill-e, and of course everyone that I have not mentioned, have done a great job of helping out new reefers and old alike, questions answers ect... Gerald is our sponsor as the owner of IPSF, and has offered up prizes in the past for contests we have had, so Thanks goes out to IPSF for all its help also ... anyway, I think ive rambled enough. ohh yea, I have been into computers for about 6-8 years (who keeps track now .... hehe) I currently work as a senior network engineer at a company in reno nevada. I also have another hobby that has crept into my life, Bearded Dragons, I now have 6 of them and will have eggs hatching hopefully in 2 months or so ... hehe ...

Hi- My name is Marie and this is my favorite site to check out every night. I am always learning something new. I started in reef tanks 4 years ago and am so lucky to have a husband who enjoys it just as much. We have 2 reef tanks 150 and 180. And 2 FOWLR 55 and 75. I am so excited though because we have just built 2 sequential tanks( with dividers that cascade into one another) that will host 14 breeding pairs of clowns and Bangaii- maybe orchid dottybacks. So far we have successfully raised maroons and Clarkii. We started filling it up this past weekend and no leaks.....yet. Thank you everyone on this board for being so helpful to all.

Hi All

My name is John and I am the manager and research director for a hospital MRI division. I have had a fowler since 1990 that went reef in 1994. I still have the same cc in place. This is a very friendly board and it is nice to see a place where newcommers can ask simple questions without getting attitude.

Peace to All

Hi,

I'm Bill Esposito and I think they made me a moderator by mistake, so dont follow my advise blindly. I've been reefing for about 1.5 years.

I have 2 questions. Why would anyone name their child geedoug? and Kinesthesia, by "the original computer company" are you referring to Sperry?

Hello Everyone,

I'm Dick and one of the Admin/Moderators. I've been with The Reef Tank since its inception and was a member of Brooke's Beginner's Board before that. I got into aquaria over 6 years ago due to the interest of my youngest daughter and youngest Reef Tank Member, FishGirl. I had to embark on a crash course in learning as I have been both student and teacher.
We have a 55 reef; 38 FOWLR for Spotty the baby Chainlink Moray; 20 freshwater community tank and 55 viquarium Salamander tank. FishGirl also has a veritable menagerie of other critters from Leopard Geckoes to cats, dogs, hamsters a Chinchilla and others.
We live in East Tennessee, home of the UT Vols, Smoky Mountains and Dolly Parton!!
The TRT philosophy is reflected in our Mission Statement: http://www.thereeftank.com/
I believe we have achieved a board with a sense of community and friendship due to our great members. We don't try to be a huge board; there are plenty of those around; but I believe we've got a great place for beginners and experts to mix and mingle, learn how to be better reefkeepers and have a good time in the process.

Hi geedoug,

I am Phill. I never intended on having a marine tank let alone a Reef. I was just doing reseach on line about digging a 1/2 -1 acre pond on my property and accidently found TheReefTank. Well a year and half later I have a 90gal reef w/a 40gal refugium and a 30 gal sump ( where the heck is my pond?) And now I just got my 2-400w MetalHalides (the pond would have been cheaper)

About 10 years ago I did have 3 -30gal tanks running w/ lake fish Bluegills Bullhead Pearch etc. Managed to keep that bullhead alive for about 3 years.
