Hello everyone,

I've been keeping fish since '92 and saltwater fish since '97. I decided to go reef about a year and a half ago and now I'm addicted. I spend approximately 3 hours each day doing something reef related: reading, or just staring at my tank. I am working on a new reef website and I should have it ready to view soon.

I also have a couple other hobbies: fishing, mountain biking, and my kids sports.

Hi everyone. Great site. Great people. Great advice.

My name is Troy and I've been keeping a reef tank for just about two years. My partner had kept saltwater fish only for 5 years. I found one of her old books and after about two weeks of looking through I was hooked. I set up her old tank for a Valantine's day present and then stumbled on a reef display at a LFS. The rest is history. I'm currently upgrading my 75 to a 120gal.

Hello everyone!

I guess you could call me one of those "kids" that read the board also, I am 15. My name is Drew and I have had fish, of one type or another, for as long as I can remember. However, I do believe I have found my true calling with my 45 gal reef. It has been up and running since June, and I am finally getting some good biological action going on in my sandbed. I also have a 20 gal in which I grow macroalgae for my tang, and also serves as a nice home for a pair of percula clowns. I am in the process of setting up a 55 gal coral prop tank, but have run into a few snags along the way. But thats no big deal, as my breeding pair of Banggai Cardinals have kept my interest for a while. That is at least until today, when the male ate the eggs. "Do'h!" Aw well, better luck next time! See you all on the board!

Hi all!
My name is Scott, and I have been keeping fish off and on for the last 10 years or so. About 3 years ago I got the itch again, and picked up a 75gal. True to my own form I immediatly started doing Discus (no inbetween-all or nothing for me ). After about a year, my wife and I decided that Discus were boring compared to the saltwater fish fish we saw at the LFS'. True to form again, I tore down the Discus and converted it to a reef. Yep, Amazon to reef in 2 days. I was told by the LFS that as long as I had LR, I didn't need to cycle the tank. That was when I learned that research is the best thing in this hobby!
Since finding this board I have been hooked! I am looking forward to all the 'Sconsies getting together in a couple of weeks.
Maybe we can help Phill build his pond....

Hey Scott, this spring after the thaw I'll call you guys and you can all come over with your shovels and we can start to dig. Lets see approx 1/2 acre approx 8ft deep - shouldn't take us too long.

I'll call you, Phill

Heck Phill, why wait for the thaw? You just need a few picks and a bit of elbow grease and you can start right away . If I was closer I'd come help but unfortunately...

Yeah Phill,

We can do it right now! Getting through the 50 inches of snow will be no problem either! Just say the word and I'll be over with a jackhammer-the ground is pretty frozen!

Hi all,

My name is Sara a.k.a Raszagil, and I have two saltwater tanks up right now, one 20L "main" reef tank and one 20 tall "mantis" tank. I've been in the reef hobby for about a year after innumeral freshwater tanks, and have been loving every minute of it.

While I post everywhere, The Reef Tank is my "home" board, cause the people here ROCK and I like the no flame policy we have here. Life is too stressful to argue about fish...especially since I work at PetSmart, and am always argueing with customers who just don't get why another 6 inch oscar won't fit in their 10 gallon tank with their other two oscars.

Here's a link to my website if you want to learn more about my reef tank: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Cavern/5505/index.html

Hey Doug,

My name is Dave, a lone cast away in the abyss of reefless Corvallis OR. Before I married my wife, I gave her, as part of her Christmas present, a coupon for setting up her 'high and dry' tank. My buddy said that I could set up a reef tank with her 100 gallon TruVu (yes - the 60"Lx18"Wx20"H poor form factor - my wifes old tank) for about $500. I just chuckle when I read people say 'I should've done my research' - boy do I know that story ($500 - what a joke)! Anyways, been doing the reef thing since January 1997. I'm a mechanical engineer for money and a reefer for fun. I'm happily married and have two young daughters. My wife is also an engineer and is now working part time. My wife hasn't ever bought the line that the tank was her present, hence, I have to take care of it and update the equipment and buy beautiful corals and...

I am looking for a reef club to join so that I can meet others interested in this stuff.

Hi Doug! Thanks for starting this thread

My name is cath, and I started thinking about being a reefkeeper about a year ago. Many of you have had years of experience, both SW and FW. Not so with me. I've started from scratch, and a friend seeded my interest by giving me a 29.

I've had steady progress, but not without the heartaches of cyano and other tank mood swings involved with creating a reef aquarium. But now I have a happy reef with some very nice corals, hermits and snails, and a camel shrimp that is the bane of my existance

See?? Just the normal fun stuff that goes along with this Reefer Madness

Hi Doug: It has just come to my attention that even though I've had this board bookmarked since Brooke and then SJLord took it over, I failed to register on this board. That oversight has now been corrected.

Later, James.

John White, I've been keeping saltwater for about 4 years now. My father inlaw got me hooked on this hobby although I've been interested in satwater and an a Padi diveMaster for about 8 years now.

Hi,
My name is Erik. I've been keeping fish for 1.5 years. It all started with one of those little betta's in a jar, moved to a 10 gallon, then to a 30, 30 became a salt FO, then moved up to a 80, 3 months ago I set up a 10 gallon reef. Give me a year and the 80 will be the reef and I'll have a 300 or 400 FO. Does it ever stop!?!?!?

Jegel, I dont think it ever stops
Dont let Aquamans humble demeanor fool you all, I have it on good authority he is an accomplished reefer and knows a little about cats. BTW John sorry to hear of the recent misfortune
Cath we have all been thru cyano, algae, you name it, its all a learning experience.
James B I believe you may hold the record as the ultimate lurker(no worries this post won't count aginst that )
