Looks like a magenta dottyback (pseudochromis porphyreus). Can be a little terror with mild-mannered fishes.

Do I need to be worried about this little guy, once again the LFS steers me wrong. Asked what it was and was told that it was a slightly aggresive fish, not a freaking dottyback. GF really wanted it so I gave in, BAD MOVE. I have heard to many horror stories about these fish.

HOW CAN I GET IT OUT? I've tried a net on other fish and they always seem to get to the rock before I catch it. I really don't want to remove all the rock since I just added a bunch of new corals, and I don't think they need the stress of that.
Does anyone know where I can get a plan for a trap, all I need is a plan and I can build it.

THANKS
Renzema

Ask around to borrow a fish trap. ( I think Woody at The Seahorse has one)Keep the trap in the tank so the fish get used to it. Drop some food in the trap after a couple days of not feeding and presto, you have fish in a box.Good luck, it can be a hair pulling experience getting a fish out of a tank.

A mirror in the back of the fish trap works well for this fish; they like to attack their own kind more than anything else.

So could I keep this fish because my GF likes it very much and as I have been told I buy nothing she likes...lol. Do I need to worry about this fish? I have a 100 gallon with a hippo tang, coral bueaty angel and a pair of GSM clowns.

Thanks

I knew somebody who had one and called it "PB" for short... Purple Beeeeeyatch was its full name (pronounced exactly that way!) In a larger tank it should be fine, it will eat small ornamental shrimp, but I've seen them kept with larger cleaners and fire shrimp with no problem. They stake their territory and guard it against all comers.

Pretty fish - too bad it comes with an attitude.

okay, how worried do I need to be about this fish eating my cleaner and peppermint shrimp. I have 3 peppermint and 2 cleaners, they are bigger than the fish but just barely.

Thanks
