Scooter Blenny

Can you get a scooter blenny to accept live or frozen foods...or are they like mandarins?

same family as mandarins, they are actually dragonets as well.

very rarely will you get one to accept dead food. some will come to recognize brine shrimp as food. if you already have a scooter, i would start with live brine. also in the meantime I would get a good fuge up and running with lots of copepods and amphipods. if you dont already have a dragonet, wait till you have a fuge and/or large main tank full of pods. they can actually decimate what to you looks like TONS of pods, fairly quickly. if they dont have a pleniful steady food source, and do not come to recognize dead food as a food source for them, they will slowly starve over a period of months.

I know that I got lucky and my scooter blenny (dragonet) loves formula one frozen food (its red and is kinda gelatinous). I think he got a mouthful of it once accidentally and it was history from there.

I'm very lucky also. BOTH my scooter blennies will eat frozen brine and even try chomping on some mysis.

Good luck.

I lost my blennie recently...I have no idea why....all other fish are healthy...I had the blenny for about a year, it didn't eat at first but it took to live brine, it loved it. I would soak the live brine in ZOE. After about a month or so, the blenny started to eat any other frozen food and it would also try to swallow huge pieces on nori everyonce in a while. About 2 months ago the blenny started to get real skinny. I started to target feed the blenny live brine and other frozen foods, but I guess it wsn't getting enough (thanks to the tangs and other fish pigs)....finally it died... , I have over 150lbs of live rock and a DSB, so I should of had a big enough pod population......anyway, he lived a year and to answer your question, yes they can be trained to eat...

Chad thats too bad about losing your scooter, sounds like your tank should have been perfect to keep one. Makes one wonder if maybe it got some type of intestinal parasite or something else way beyond our control
