Royal Gramma

We put a royal gramma into Mrs. Phish's tank as her last fish making it a cardinal, two nemo's mated, and a goby as tank mates in a 29g.

The gramma took over our little yellow watchman goby's hidey hole and just sits there.

These fish got a 5 in the 500+ book. Will the gramma ever swim around or just stay in his hole? He comes out to eat then just hangs out in there.

I'll chime in here with my own personal experiences and observations.

Grammas (grammae?) are territorial by nature and are somewhat shy. In the wild, they'll stake out a small area, maybe a square foot or two with one or more hiding places and then stay there, usually hovering around waiting for food to drift by.

As your's becomes more comfortable, he'll begin to spend more time out of his hole, but don't expect to see him roaming about the tank.

Great choice, btw. Certainly one of my favorites.

They are not as lively as clowns, for example, but once he gets used to his new home he should become more active.

He will generate lots of great comments from your friends
