Royal Dottyback

Pseudochroms paccagnellae to be exact! One of these little guys:

I did not know that these fish will dig a burrow! I glance over at my tank and my Fox coral looks like heck; all deflated! I start to walk over and see sand come flying out from between the long sides of its "U" shape and sure enough, the Royal Dottyback is digging a hole under there. My C. argi (Cherub Angel) had been chasing the Royal Dottyback so maybe it's found a safe haven. I'm going to keep an eye on it though, if the Fox is continually irritated I'm gonna roust the little guy out of his burrow.

It's a funny story how I ended up with this fish: I walk into the LFS where I work part time and there are buckets all over the place with Royal Dottybacks in each one. Then I notice that every available suitable tank has one in it; Woody had ordered 2, the shipper had sent 26!! We didn't have any cups to float them in the tanks and you can only put one of these guys in a tank, they'll really tussle with each other. So one followed me home The cups came by Fedex so now there are three cups floating in one tank that houses one Royal Dottyback; as of last night he still hadn't figured it out, he was still rushing the cups and bonking into them

We're having a sale on Royal Dottybacks

I was surprised to hear they dug burrows as well Alice!! Sure it wasn't using the burrow dug by another inhabitant as a cave. Here is a little more info on these dottyback. Johnny

I had a bi-color for over 3 years and never knew they would dig! Thanks for the info. Always something new to learn.

Welcome RickG!

We fired our spill chick, she neever seemed to git et rite.

Johnny, I found that page too, when I was looking for more info. And he really dug his own little burrow under the Fox coral, nothing else has lived under there. He has gone in there at night or when he's been startled but is out and about most of the time now.
