Q: Lion behavior

Hi All,

I have a small lion fish. With full span he is only about an inch long. All of the other fishes are about the same size. 3 green Chromis. 2" Purple Firefish. and 6 shrimps.

For the last 2 days I have not seen my little lion.

Question: do they hide? did I lose my Lion? Do other fishes eat lion?

Thanks, Ed.

That small he is prolly hiding in the rock setting up am ambush. Dont be surprised if other fish start disapearring, then again thats small. I have only dealt with larger ones so I have no idea about the hardyness of the micro sized. Any idae which species?

1" is dinky, it's probably cute. I highly doubt it will eat your chromis or the firefish for awhile, or the shrimps for that matter. Live brine shrimp are probably the meal of choice for you right now.

If it did die, then you will probably never see it again as crabs and shrimp have a way of taking care of those things. Otherwise, when it gets hungry it will show itself.

Also in answer to your question, lions do enjoy hiding, some species more than others.

And IMO (not that you asked for it of course ) it is very risky buying such extremely young specimens due to lack of hardiness.

good luck

I had a 6-7 inch lionfish a few months ago; when I got back from vacation he had vanished; no signs of him dead anywhere even under the rocks...didn't jump out either. I have a new tank setup now and breaking down the old tank didn't find a thing.
