Poor Mortie..got to catch him
Morticia (true to her name) was already doing her shimmy thing this morning. I looked in the tank just now and poor Mortie is gagging on a HUGE mouthful of eggs with several hanging out of his mouth. Now I feel really bad that we haven't caught him yet. Ugh. I'm even trying to catch her at this point just to give the poor man a break. We could try the "blind them after lights out, then net" thing tonight, I guess.
Suggestions please? Set a trap?? Go fishing?
Thanks-
Brooke

Well, with a nice assist from the purple tang the female swam right into the specimen container. That's the good news...bad news is he's already got a mouth full of eggs. I'm hoping some mysis will look really good and he will spit those out. Caviar anyone?
The female is in the 38g now..opposite her big babies. Wow...
Now I hope I haven't royally screwed their relationship up..but considering how willing she is to make eggs, and how willing he is to take care of them, theirs should be a happy reunion.....after I get him fattened up again.
Am I doing the right thing here??
Brooke ( a really bad fish catcher)

Sorry
I was going to post some reply, but I can't stop laughing as I try to picture this situation and the poor male. My eyes are watering too much to continue........

Just an update (if anyone cares). I caught the male today and put him in the 38g with the female. They both looked sad when they were alone. Poor guy wont spit the eggs out yet. I imagine he will soon, though. The two can be easily seperated in the 38g after he has the next batch of babies so I actually will have time to fatten him up. We also moved the 6 chromis into the 135g...nice to have some active fish in there!

So is this what I have to look forward to with my cardinals? We are picking up a mated pair this weekend from a fellow reefer. The best part is that they are free. There are a bunch of local reefers here and we try to get together every couple of months to trade frags, drink beer, and have a great time. This weekend is our next meeting. We will be getting several new SPS frags along with our two new Banggai's.

Brooke, Jon, Andrew, and all you other Banggai Breeders out there, just a word of caution for your small fry:
I was telling the owner of my favorite LFS about Brooke's Bonanza and he told me that it is important to keep the baby Banggai's from different clutches separated as they can become very aggressive toward their brothers and sisters from different hatches.
Might want to check this out....you may need to setup seperate tanks for these babies.

Andrew, you realize that the staff cannot condone or be responsible for any after effects of swapping fish and frags while consuming adult beverages, and if Brooke and Johns BC are any indication, dont let them near the beer

LOL Doug! I will not hold the staff here responsible. We don't trade WHILE we are drinking adult beverages. It is always after.

Noted. We have the little babies in the 10g, big babies in half of the 38g and parents in the other half of 38g. I'll be getting rid of most of the babies next week at the reef club meeting. I feel like a parent with kids going off to college . I'll miss them. But I have 9 more to take care of . We're making plans now to plumb up another tank for breeding/growout and upgrade our UV.
Andrew- It's quite the learning experience. Stressful, rewarding, exciting, etc.!!

Hey Brooke... I'll trade you some mushrooms for some of that water. There are a number of ladies I know that I could dose their coffee with it.............
Poor guy... get him away from her and get some vitamin E into him. This is beginning to remind me of college!!!!
