Picasso Trigger in a Reef??? Please advise before i do something stupid!
So, i've fallen in love with these kind of fish, they are AMAZING!! They are as personable as dogs or cats, as i'm sure many of you know. And they are beautiful. I would LOVE to have one. The problem is that the only tank it could comfortably fit in is the 120 Reef tank. As tank mates it would have 2 Oscellaris, 2 Paracanthus Hippotus(Regal Tangs), and 1 Lawnmower Blenny. It's a mixed tank. Is there any chance of success. I would be willing to try, and if it doesn't work out, sell him back to the LFS for wholesale(next to nothing ) Comon, any opinions? Speak now, or forever laugh at me being bitten while trying to get a trigger out of a tank...

uhh, your kidding right.
those things eat everything, literally. if it has living tissue on it or in it it is on the menu for those. there are only a handfull of triggers that could be attempted in a reef and the Rhinecanthus's are not one of them. they are not the meanest triggers out there, but they are close. they do not like having tankmates either.
most triggers need a tank to themselves.

Sargassum Trigger, Blue Jaw, Crosshatch and *sometimes* Niger if you aren't keeping ornamental crustaceans or crabs.
Humuhumunukunukapuaha does not play nicely with small others
Gorgeous fish, for a fish only tank.

Thanks Jenn! Will those top three or four "usually" not bother corals?

Just had to jump in on this one. I LOVE Humu's. Took me a week in Hawaii to say the name right too.
Most Triggers + Corals = Dead Corals

the ones that Jenn listed are all planktonivores. this is why they do not bother most things in the tank. triggers in the Genus Xanthicthys are the reef safe ones. the niger is in the Genus Odonus.

What Geoff said
I've got a nice female blue jaw. She is in the 1000 FOWLR and she's a honey.
Meanest fish in my store, pound for pound, is an Undulated trigger that I've had for 18 months now..

i can not remember which one he has. for some reason i think it is either a niger or a sargassum, both are planktonivores. the niger being the most likely to nip at things.

heh... clown triggers...
most triggers should have dedidcated systems with one secimen in them, although if it is a LARGE tank (300gal or so) a few other "suitable playmates" would be ok.

Tom, even a little one? I thought a lot of the smaller triggers could do fine in a 120g. Are you a member of the tang police?

Casey actually posted a pic of his tank with a clown trigger in it!!
this needs to have a disclaimer saying, kids do not try this at home. Casey is a trained professional.
how is he doing it, got no idea, maybe just lucky.
