as long as the sand is deep enough and it can build its cave to its likeing, you should have a happy addition to your tank!

I love those guys, Toadfish; I have a soft spot for jawfish. Do you have the tank covered with eggcrate? Great fun to watch these fish engineer their burrows. Place some small shells, etc around his burrow so he has more building material. If he finds a flat shell to his liking he might use it for a front door
Erin, there are several species of gobies that pair up with pistol shrimp.

The biggest suggestion I can make is that you should make sure the entire tank is covered. It's as if they will keep swimming up until they find the one spot you didn't cover; I found out the hard way. Also, they like a finer sand, not too fine, and mix some larger pieces of sand or crushed coral so he can build his home. Good luck with that guy, he's cute.

Yeah well...The issue I have is the cover over my tank, well there isn't one. I have tried to use some eggcrate but I have a fear that he try to leap at some point. Any suggetions for covering. I have a yellow head that has never jumped, he's been there 1 year plus...

Yeah Toadfish I have no cover on my tank either! I just try to make sure the new inhabitant is well taken care of and has no reason to jump! Has worked for me to this point!

ive read that they are most likely to jump the first day or so till they get their burrow built and are all settled in. Im sure somebody could say otherwise from their personal experience, though!....
