How to get a fish out of a reef tank?

Hi,

I want to get a 3.5" Long Nose Hawk out of my tank. He ate 2 of my decrative shrimps, and I am worried he will go after my smaller fishes.

I had borrowed a trap, with location for food, and a door that will drop down. But I have to be there to watch it. It been more than 6 hours of on and off attempts.

Anyone have any suggestions on trapping this fish?

Thanks, Ed.

The fish trap is probably your best bet. The fish is probably a little suspicious of the trap. Try leaving it in the tank for a few days so that the fish gets used to it. In the mean time do all of the feedings from the trap so that the fish have to swim in it to eat. Even if you're not there to catch him he will get used to swimming in the trap at feeding time.

Hawkfish love shrimp, as a rule. Hope you can catch him.

I had good success getting a twin spot wrasse out of my tank with a fish hook baited with some shrimp. Give it a shot. You can read a little bit about my fishing experience here.

Good luck,
Andrew

I would like to add that I had great success with a fish hook. I tried to catch a witch of a clown with a trap and she wouldn't go near it. I caught her on the hook in less than a second. It helps if the fish is a pig.

Where does the hawk fish go at night?
If you know maybe you can catch him if you turn the room lights on in the middle of the night, the fish cannot see as well when the lights first come on!! Just another way besides using a trap
Good Luck
