Good Morning All! New babies today!
I've been out of sight for a few days....just busy with a big project
105 new seahorse babies this morning....not all will make it, some look a bit under-developed, but most are photo-orienting.
I'm starting them on rotifers this time. Thanks to a friend in Columbus, I have rotifers to offer. Those suckers multiply like mad. A week ago I had one Coke bottle with a culture, now I have 2 bottles, a jar and a fishbowl! I wanted to separate them in case one (or more) cultures crash.
Off to Church in a few minutes, I'll check back in later in the day!

That's great, Jenn!
Seems like seahorses are pretty prolific progeny producers!
Hope you get good results with this bunch.

Awesome! Good luck with this batch, we all know how hard you work with the horses. How long did you have the horses before they started breeding? I am also interested in breeding horses Good luck!

I received this pair of horses (H. reidi)on May 2. First babies were born on June 19. I did have other 5 horses, 4 I received on May 17. 3 of them died suddenly and undexpectedly (improperly caught?) and one I had for about 6 months, and lost her to a bacterial infection. The other was a tiny juvenile given to me by a local LFS owner, because it was doing poorly in his system. I lost that one after 2 months to bacteria as well.
Now this pair is alone, and will stay that way. I'm so worried about introducing a pathogen, no new additions will go into that tank.
I did aquire 2 tank bred H. erectus last week. They are now 12 weeks old and so cute. They are in my pipefish tank and they are eating frozen foods now too, brine and mysis, if I break the mysis in half, they will eat the "eyeball" half.
My male pipefish is due to have babies again in another week or so. I've had miserable failures with the reidi babies (but trying harder each time to succeed!) but the pipefish are relatively easy. The hard part is catching the babies before they become a meal, or the filter gets them. I can turn off the filter now that I know when they are due, but with 5 other pipes in the tank, they are likely to be snacked upon if they are born when I'm not there.
The male showed me his belly yesterday...his brood pouch is transparent and I could clearly count 17 eggs in it, in two neat little rows.
