Foxface Advice
I know I posted a thread like this previously, but now that I'm pretty much decided on the Foxface. I was wondering what everyone's experiences with them have been. Things to look out for? I'm hoping he will be a good algae eater!

Mine is cool, plays well with others, he doesn't eat the algae I hoped he would, but does a good enough job, and his color changes are cool.

I love mine, had him a little over a year now. He performed the task that I got him for, he ate all the bubble algae and is cool with all the other fish. He is just the slightest bit psychotic though. He may have been a fetal alcohol baby. If I approach the tank quickly or if the lights go on or off, he flips out. I have heard stories where they have been known to run into the glass when they freak out. So... I love mine, no bad stories here. They do grow to approx 8" though, so they need some room.

both of mine behave great! the big ol magnificus bullied the little virgatus for about half a day,but now the virgatus follows the magnificus around. i got the magnificus for basic algae munching, and because it is a cool looking fish, this is my show fish. i got the virgatus to eat the razor caleurpa. it did in the store when i bought him, but now it is not interested in it at all. he may get moved to Nikki's tank if i can find a fish that will actually eat the stuff, but until then i like it also. they are model citizens. clearing algae any algae away except for the razor. will devour just about anything i put in the tank. flake frozen, and especially nori.
they do not seem to need as large a tank as the tangs, but be warned they can get pretty big. the smallest are the foxfaces, and the larger are the rabbitfishes.

i loved my foxface. i am going to get another soon i think. i never had any problem with him except he would pick at my bat fish when his fins were very long. kinda a "hair cut" for the bat. he only did this about once a month.
really cool fish to watch and will get almost everything i ever could think of to feed him.

Good working fish, great for soloration, better than most for cleaning up little micro-thalli algae. Although I have never observed them consuming bubble (Valonia) algae, I never had any in the lagoonal system until the Rabbitfish in that system died during the powerfailure/freeze last winter. Siganus unimaculatus is the one-spot yellow rabbitfish with the chracteristic black and white face, prolly just a color variant from S. vulpinus, which appears the same but without the black spot near the peduncle area. S. virgatus prolly falls into this same classificatioin, as it is the same facial markings, but the largest portion of the flank coloratiion is white with a little irridescent marbling.
Most striking to me are the Siganus uspi as half purple and half yellow, S. corallinus, which has a fully yellow body with blue and pink irridescent sponts over the entire body, and the S. magnificus with its red tinged dorsals and light blue edging. All are absolutely beautiful, and I have not found them to have conspecific issues past introduction with any fishes, including the racoon butterflyfishes, but then again, there will be individuals in every situation. Larger tanks will allow for more natural interactions within systems.
Good luck on your acquisition!

Well I don't have any fish that look like him, so that's good!
