firefish

I would like to add a firefish to my tank- but only want 1. I have heard that they are very shy and hide if they are alone and should be kept in pairs or more.

What are your experiences- I only want one because my bioload will be too high.

Scott,

I purchased a purple firefish a few months back and it is great. It made it's home in the front of the tank under one of my live rocks. It is out the majority of the time cruising the lower portion of the tank. I have read you can keep two together if they are a mated pair if not you probably just want to go with one.

I've had one for about a month. He was shy a first but now he's out all the time hanging around his LR home. A beautful, peaceful addition. Very glad I got him.

i have a single fire fish and it is fine. its territory is slowly getting bigger. i have heard some mixed experiences with more than one in a tank. i have seen some that were just completely beaten up by others firefish in the tank (they were the only fish in the tank).

they are great fish, but they can jump really, really, well. if they have a bolt hole they feel comfortable darting towards you will be fine. if not then they just shoot in any direction, which sometimes means up.
