Question

Female clownfish behaviour

A week ago I got a mated pair of Ocellaris clowns. They immediately adopted my large toadstool leather. They are both eating well and very active. In the last 2 days the female spends quite a bit of time laying on her side very still in the leather. She occasionally swims around just fine and still eats brine shrimp very actively. I have Joyce Wilkerson's "Clownfish" book but I don't read anything about this behavior. Should I be concerned?

P.S. She is not panting and the water params are all okay (ph=8.1, alk=4.0, sal=1.026, temp 80, 0 nitrates, 0 ammonia). No signs of parasites either.

Thanks

Hi J,
Prolly just bonding behavior.
The female is trying to elicit the normal feedback from its 'anemone'. There are no tentacles, and naturally the tactile feedback is limited, so I'm guessing the female makes up for it with duration of contact.

Congratulationms on getting a pair.
Post some pics!!

Sorry for the delay
Anyway, you will need to upload your pics as jpg or gif files to the web. You can get free webspace from geocities.com or homestead.com –some of the other free webspace providers don’t allow you to board-post pics they host for you! You could also ask one of us (Doug Gee is the most fun to harrass, hehe) to temporarily host your pics (e-mail them to us) on one of OUR personal webspaces and then you could invoke those pics in your post.

So, suppose the pic is of Spot, our mascot eel.
The image file is eel.jpg and it's already on the web. The exact way to describe it includes its location on the web, with a URL address…

http://www.thereeftank.com/ubb/eel.jpg

When typing out a post I simply frame the above address with IMG commands like this

{IMG}http://www.thereeftank.com/ubb/eel.jpg{/IMG}

except I should use real brackets like [] not {}

Good luck!
