This guy is a real beauty and he seems to have a great disposition. But I have to tell you guys, tangs are smart!!! I have a standard yellow/black banded sailfin. I was concerned how he would receive the new black. So I thought I'd catch him and use him as a trade, kinda avoid the compatability issue. I have a cylindrical fish trap that has been very reliable in functionality. Put some bait in it and with 5 minutes I could catch the target fish. But this sailfin seems to have retained my previous usage of this contraption. He sensed the line I draw to close the trap, very trepidly scanned the bait and just moved way. I hadn't fed him in 1 day. I know he was hungry.
So I put the black in because I had him, he was acclimated and because of his size I thought he would jump the acclimation chamber. The sailfin went directly for him even tho the black is 1 and 1/2 his size. They did their little booty shakin bit. Trying to back each other down. Did some neat chariot chalanging, but then they just started to ignore each other.
This morning, no fatalities, no cut up dorsals. I think they might be cool with each other. I'll post a photo tonight. This black is great. I'm thinking a miniture red santa claus hat is going too look great on him on Christmas. The
purple tangs come next Monday. That should be a blast.
