Blue damsels
Anyone know how to differentiate a so-called Orange Tail Damsel from the Fiji Blue Devil Damsel?
Also, any experience with adding either to a tank that has a Butterfly, Mandarin Fish, Yellow Tang and Chalk Basslets?
I was originally thinking Chromis might be better, but LFS said they grow larger than I had thought...as much as 5-8 inches!
Thanks.

Well it's a Damsel so beware!
I have three damsels in with a copperband butterfly and the damsels act like the copperband is not even in the tank!
I would go with the chromis!

The biggest chromis I've ever seen was 3". Chromis are a far better choice, IMHO.
Just say "NO" to ****sels!

i love my chromis. if you get some and they get too big, you can always trade 'em for smaller ones.

The Blue Devil has a solid yellow orangy tail with a blue outline, also yellow on the jaw and caudal fins.
The Blue Devil has yellow that starts to go into the tail but stops short of the eand, the last part of the tail is sort of transluscent. No other yellow on it's body.

Hey what's up with no love for the damsel's? I have a FOWLR damsel tank. And they are fun to watch!!! I don't believe they should go into the reef tank, HECK NO!!!! But for a community tank they are cool.

Sounds pretty grim! Well, I will watch it carefully. Perhaps good news is there are no other damsels (or clowns or chromis) in the tank, and other than the Chalk Basslets all the other fish are bigger and were in there first.
Does anyone give it a decent chance of working out?

I sure would like to avoid dismantling the tank to get rid of it. Is their aggressiveness usually apparent soon after they are in the tank, or could they become aggressive even much later?
And is it any more likely that they might not be disruptive if they are the only damsel in the tank?
Im probably just doing a lot of wishful thinking. Id love to get it out of there, but attempts at netting didn't work and tearing down the whole reef is something I am hesistant to do if there's a chance it might adapt peaceably.

They get more aggresive the longer they are in the tank, they are very territorial and will fight to the death to defend there home mine picked on every fish I added and threw my frags around when I would add a new one,I would do whatever it takes to get it out now, sorry this is not what you wanted to hear.
