algae blenny has pinched stomach!

i was noticing that my algae blenny (that I got a week or two ago, who is about four inches long, and SEEMS fat...)has an indentation where his tummy is last night! right behind his pectoral fins underneath. ive seen him rasp at the glass, and he has seemed to go after floating bits of food, but not too fervently. my tank doesnt really have that much algae in it though. I am going to make it a point to feed frozen mysis and blender chunks. any other words of advice? thanks.

Pick upsome Nori and feed that also. Clip it to a piece of LR or PVC or an algae clip. You can get the stuff at the LFS or go to a chinese market and get actual Nori sheets (used for making sushi), it's just as good and a lot cheaper.

yeah i have nori too. i usually clip it to the top of the glass (so i have to stick my hand less far in the tank) but I will stick it further down on a piece of LR so he feels more comfortable eating it. thanks.

well, he kind of picked at the mysis, and i rubberbanded a piece of nori to a seashell and dropped it to the bottom of the tank, and he just doesnt seem interested. he keeps trying to rasp at the glass, but I just dont have any algae in my tank! I even robbed a piece of LR from my 10fowlr which had some green algae growing on it, and the dern snails ate it because the blenny showed no interest in it! heeeelp

Too bad it doesn't like the nori Have you tried those algae wafers they sell for f.w. fish? Might work.

i was going to ask, do they like macro algae? i have some in my 10g tank. green ulva and red dragons breath stuff. the tang would probably eat it before the blenny could, stupid tang

(j/k)

i could just leave the lights on the tank for 18 hours a day, feed three times a day and turn off all the filters? no? bad idea?

i do not think it is a really problem yet.. when i have no alga on the glass my guy ppicks at the bottom or on the LR.

if you want try leaving the lights on for 24 hours.. that should give you a good amount of alage growing..

well its official. no more pinched tummy. I left the lights on a little longer and now have a nice furry aquarium (not too bad, just lots of fur on the glass and some on a coral, but what are you going to do) and now I also have a nice round-bellied algae blenny. dont you just love success stories
