911 EMERGENCY!!!!! Percula Clown with fungus!!!?????

My clownfish is very healthy and eating well. It eats Tetramin Pro flakes as well as some pieces of live fish. He has a small 'beard' looking thing growing on his 'chin' area. It looks like a white beard, its atiny patch about 1 mm in length. It looks to me like a fungus!!! WHAT CAN I DO!!!!!!! HELP!!!

Give him a freshwater bath. Take a small container of distilled or RO/DI water (NOT TAPWATER!!!!), and match temperature. Place the fish in this fresh water (no salt!) for 5 minutes. Repeat this once per day for 5 minutes each day until you see the problem clearing up.

What live fish are you feeding to your clown? "Pieces of live fish" is an oxymoron I'd stick with prepared foods for now, high quality flake (Omega One or OSI brands are good) and perhaps some enriched Brine Shrimp or Mysis Shrimp would be best.

HTH

Thanks again, Jenn!
Alright, off to the store to buy distilled water! Hopefully it clears up! I feed my Burrfish live fish, and he is a very messy eater. The clown follows him as scraps of the fall out of his mouth. It only eats a little bit, and usually spits them back out, but it does manage to eats some bits. Thanks,
Dan

I'd suggest using ONLY distilled/di water in your tank, not tap water - too many impurities in tap water.

In the other thread you mentioned your nitrate running about 20 -- big eating and big pooping by the puffer and his leftovers is going to crank that up and possibly even cause small ammonia spikes if uneaten bits are left on the bottom. This can aggrivate the problems you are having.

In the other thread I described how to wean a lionfish onto prepared foods, I have never met a puffer that wouldn't take prepared foods. Freshwater fishes are not a good foodstuff for saltwater fishes. They can be useful to initiate a feeding response if the animal is picky, but get them onto preparations that are for them as quickly as possible and avoid letting waste hit the bottome to rot.

San Francisco Bay Brand makes a nice plankton mix for puffers, they also love squid, clams, mussel, silversides, krill, shrimp and other goodies. These foods are more appropriate as they are saltwater creatures too.
