Zoomed PowerSweep Self-Rotating Powerhead
Any opinions on the Zoomed PowerSweep Self-Rotating Powerhead ?? I saw a few on Ebay, and was thinking of replacing my 2 Penguin PH's with one of these! I just bought one of the titanium heaters.

Uh I dont know about buying a used one. I have a 214 and everyone pitches fits about them not working alot. I take mine out every month, take it apart and clean it. Thats the ONLY way they stay running. You cant 'set it and forget it'.
IMO no- dont buy a used powersweep off ebay, you dont know if the person you bought it from took care of it like they should.

no, they are brand new ........ but, I just did a search earlier & it seems like not many people like them. Maybe Ill stick with what I got, and upgrade to another light strip.

When the sweep quits (won't take long) you'll be left with a really weak powerhead. Don't waste your money.

The powersweeps do push out less GPH than they claim they do, with that I agree.
My powersweep is going on two solid years of use now and still runs/sweeps. The PITA about them is that you HAVE to take them apart for a regular cleaning. They are nice to have pointed at some GSP's for some wave motion but don't get them in place of a wavemaker.
The concept is a good idea, I just wish they didnt use such crummy cheap parts and had a stronger pump.

I've had mine since I set the tank up in December & love it. Like Adrienne said you have to clean it about once a month to keep it rotating...but overall it works for me & my tank. It's all I have for circulation besides the return from the refug & my tank looks great. I've also heard that they've made some changes/improvements to the newer models.
I'd buy another one anyday!

Not if it's not working !
I didn't mention...I do have the block of sponge over the intake....it can be rather ugly but I've hidden it behind rocks & corals. If I recall that was one of the "improvements".

I have had a power sweep on my 38g for about 5 months. I did the old plug and go no maintenance and it still works great. I have heard stories of them not working but for me I had already bought it before I read about it so I kept it. I wouldn't have bought after reading the stories.

I had one, but took it back because it was WAY too noisey. I have my tank setup in my bedroom, so noise is definitely something I'm concerned about. I replaced it with maxijets, and haven't looked back. Maxijets rock! Just take some PVC pipe and drill holes at different angles, and attach to the Maxijet. That way the current flows in different directions. I have two set up this way in my 20g... each set on timers. If I get a bigger tank down the road, I'll replace the timers with a wavemaker.
