oh no, not the blue-black thing again.
I like to paint a piece of wood and then put it on the back of the tank. I tend to change colours every now and then just to keep the tank looking different.
Mine is actually a midnight Blue.

I think the blue is the most eye-catching, BUT, it really shows any algae or coraline etc that grows on the back. I would suggest using black unless you plan on wipng the glass every couple of days. I think the black also makes the colors of most fish stand out more. HTH

I couldn't make up my mind so I used a very dark blue!!
I agree with the earlier comment about the bright blue. I would only use it if you planned on keeping it clean. My background is covered with all sorts of stuff now, but the painted background that shows through is not really noticeable.

I covered mine with a silver plastic thermal blanket ($2) it both reflects the light back into the tank, conserves heat and until the glass covered with pink algea it kept the fish at the back of the tank staring at themselves
The thermal blanket works very well, I've noticed the heater is on much less then in the past

I have used mirrored blue colored plexiglass in the past just siliconed to the back and on the outside it makes a nice background.
