Super Glue Frags ????
I am brand new to frags and I just purchased my first one today. It is a small Red Mushroom frag and the **** thing shriveled up to a little ball. How should I attach it to a rock? I have read about people super glueing thier frags. How is that done? What type of glue would one use? Right now I have it pinned between two rocks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mushrooms don't easily attach with super-glue. I would place it in a glass or bowl with some sand in the bottom. The container should protect it from the current and allow it to attach to the sand. Then you can glue the mushroom to the rock of your choice.

I prefer the method that Andrew has described. Mushrooms can be very uncooperative and can shrink up till they seem like they will disappear. If there's no chance of it coming loose and floating away from where it is now and you're happy with the location then you could leave it.

Mushrooms don't work well with super glue, they produce too much slime and the super glue won't stick. Wedging it between the 2 rocks might work. You caould place it in a container with coral rubble and wait for it to attach, then use the attached rubble to glue it to a rock. Also you can take a small piece of LR and use tulle (wedding veil) to hold the mushroom to the piece of LR until it attaches (I use this method for Xenia). In most systems if you just let them loose they will find a place they like and attache, although I have lost a few this way... lol I've also just placed them in a rock crevice, where there was very little water flow and let them attache. Hope this helps and does not just add to the confusion...

Thanks everyone. How long does it take usually for the shroom to attach to something before it dies?

It's not going to die just because it's not attached to something. Left alone in one place for long enough and it will attach. It should attach in about a week.

I have used tulle, and it does work fairly well. I think the bowl idea is the best, or hey, just throw it in the tank, it will show up somewhere someday.lol I have actually done that before and it does work, but ya never know where it will go.

Thanks all, I put the shroom in a small cup with a little LR and it now appears it is starting to attach. I just hope that it doesn't attach to the cup.

Discosoma propagation
Super Glue is a great method of attaching sps to plugs however in attempting to
Adhere Discosoma or Zoanthus you may end up triggering a tissue infection. I have a site dedicated to propagation, www.thesea.org. In fact one of our mentors posted a lesson specifically dealing with the propagation of Discosoma
http://www.thesea.org/htm/lessons.htm
there are two lessons so far the links to the left.

I've used plastic toothpicks to keep shrooms in place were I want them. Just stab right through the edge of the shroom and into the rock. I ran out of toothpicks once and had some of those little plastic sword-picks used to spear olives, etc. in cocktails. They did look a little wierd sticking out of the rocks but the neon colors glowed really well under the actinics

at least it wasn't the skeleton cocktail stirrers with the ruby eyes
Ekudl, be sure there's rubble, sand, something on the bottom of the cup.

I ended up taking the shroom out of the cup and try the wedding veil or mesh approach and elastics to hold down the shroom to the LR. It appears that this method is much better, easier and quicker IMHO.
Thanks All,
