Question

re-attaching frags

Looking for help. Is there a good, safe way to fasten mushrooms or whatever in tank that have been knocked off by snails or current? I've tryed just putting in cracks but current or critters move them. Sponges aren't to be in air so I figure there is some way. Some kind of glue that will work in water? This would really help for attaching something to a big rock thats alredy in tank. Thanks in advance..

Mushrooms can be difficult because they're small and slimey. The best method I havd found is to get a tupperware container, line the bottom with course sand or gravel, put the shroom in it and place the container in an area of the tank with low water flow. After a week or two the shroom will attach to the sand. Then using superglue gel you can glue it to another rock.

Another method is to use the netting bag that oranges come in. Place the shroom on the rock and rubberband the netting over the shroom. Don't go too tight or it will damage or cut the shroom in half. Bob

Well, the part that sticks out is a snail or current knocking off the shroom. Unless you have a PH pointed directly at it, there is some other reason why it jumped off.... which could be good or bad. If your shrooms don't like their location, they will unattach themselves and float around your tank until they find a good spot. But on the other hand, if your shroom are happy, they can reproduce by moving to another area and split or drop baby shroom off, depending on the type of shroom you have. My ricordia will grow another mouth and split down the middle. I have some purple ones that grow a baby on its side and then it splits off when its ready. My giant green hairy and my red shrooms usually just show up next to a larger shroom.

Anyways... the method Rick suggested is probably the sure-fire way. Using netting or tule(wedding veil), I've found that the shrooms seem to get irritated from something touching them and take longer to attach, sometimes. Goodluck and sorry for the rambling!
