Question

new fan idea? (link)

in my search for fans for my canopy i stumbled on these at menards for $20 each...

http://fieldcontrols.com/pg.cgi?sess...h8f1451y&page="rf-1.html"

they are mounted with a bracket on the top that the fan hangs from...i can put them behind each MH bulb that is placed perpindicular to my tank so the fan blows directly over the bulb...(the back of my canopy is open)

they plug right in so i dont have to worry about transformers...and with these i dont have to drill a hole in the sides of my canopy like i would with the radio shack fans...

they seem pretty quiet...but i dont have em mounted yet...

any thoughts?

thanks

brad

the link doesnt seem to go directly to the specific fan...

use the link, then click on "retail products"

then click "evenair air boosters"

then click "RF-1"

thanks

I have thought about doing a systen similiar to this in which I would duct the air from a different area of the house and reduce the noise around the fan.

Looks very interesting, keep us posted.

Fans

Brad,
How big are these. The illustration makes them seem very large.
Thanks
I favor the PFO 4 inch fans myself very reliable you can hang them with wire ties, in place of the screws for more versatile locations.

they're really not that big...not much bigger than the radio shack fans i looked at ...maybe 5" tall?...

they have a bracket that you screw in then you slide the fan in the bracket and it "locks" in place so it cant slide out...my concern would be gettin it wet (which i dont think will happen) and if its too loud (i plugged one of em in and it didnt seem loud at all)...

i will post soon when i get them up and runnin on how they work...

the idea to hang a PFO or radio shack fan with wire is a good one...the only thing i dont like about the radio shack fans is they dont have a cord and plug wired in...so you gotta mess with wiring a plug yourself...which i dont really wanna have around water...

Fan

Brad,
the nice thing about the wire tie is that you can do all four corners so you can hang the fan at a 45% angle rather then straight up and down. I know what you mean bout the wiring but I like that cuz I have no slack to worry about.

yea, the 45 degree angle sounds like a nice way to do it...

my canopy just has the front and two sides and the back is completely open...except for a 1X4 brace that runs across the top and connects the two sides at the very back....heres a link to my stand and canopy...

http://all-glass.com/products/stands/mseries_black.html

you can kinda see what i mean on the picture that says...

"Single piece canopy has plenty of room under the hood:"

...so, i was just gonna hang these fans from that 1X4 board that goes across the back...and just hope to bounce some air around in there then out the open back...

if that makes any sense at all!

FWIW
