Gulf-View Live Rock

Recieved a shipment of live rock from Dale at Gulf-View on Wednesday...though I'd share some photos. The rock is awesome!! Got the 30 lb combined Deco-Coralline box for $168 including shipping and split it with a friend. She got the majority of the deco rock, but there is so much life on all of it, it's hard to differentiate between the types.

First pic is of the rock in the bag in the box. Packaging was wonderful and heat packs were still warm.

After rinse and 30 second dip in hypersalininty salt. Got off about 6 small hairy red crabs and some fire worms. Dip was recommended by Dale on his website.

The whole package in a rubbermaid container at normal salinity (1.025). Had a small ammonia spike and did a 50% water change on the rubbermaid. Continued testing and 4 hours later had no ammonia, so I added it to the tank.

Here is a shot of the rubble. This is all of the rubble that was in the box....most of it is small pieces that appear to have broken off the larger pieces (and were encrusted with coralline and coral). As you can see...very little rubble...

One rock, about the size of my fist, is fully encrusted with orange sponge....

This is a shot of a piece of the coralline rock. This piece of rock has small coral polyps, tunicates, fan worms, etc.

Looks really nice! reminds me of a big box I bought from Florida about 3 or so years ago, for my 120 (no longer reef tank).

Same life, looked the same, except some of mine was rather dirty. Needed rinsed really good. Took mine a month to cycle in the tank, and then I got hair algae from he**.

Mine also had some encrusting polyps on it, kinda like star polyps.

The only thing I didn't like about it was the pieces were really heavy, and not very porous. But I loved the life on it.

I think our LFS does the same thing. I'd never buy live rock there. A few weeks ago I bought an acro from them. It had a small purple acro crab on it. They tried to charge me for the acro crab.....I put up a fuss and told them that the crab hitch hiked in on the acro and it could just hitchhike home....I did end up getting the acro crab for free....

I highly recommend the gulf-view live rock.....
