I would imagine that you could trim the edges without killing it. Or you could simply slice it in half or maybe a third off. I've fragged my
S. elegans before, and it isn't that bad. The sections you take off the edges would give you a lot of frags. Healthy
S. elegans frags would fetch a decent price at a LFS - much more so if they were larger mounted pieces. That way you could keep most of the
mother colony, and sell/trade some of it.
I guess "traumatic" is a relative word here... Personally, I'd chop some off rather than sell the whole thing.
