Refugium pod problem
Well I have had to move my tank twice in the last month due to remodeling my basement and to lay tile for where my aquarium sits currently. Since the move the corals and fish are fine, BUT I looked in my refugium last night and did not see one, mysis, amphipod, ministar, nothing!!!! It seems as if everything (except the spaghetti macro and a few frags) have died off. Even in my main tank there are no pods at all. Has anyone ever had this happen to them before???
I guess I better give Inland Aquatics a call to re-stock the pods, this really bites....

i had this happne when i moved. I believe it was because the sand bed was seriously disturbed and released some nasties. I never fixed the problem, but it was because i gave up to easy.
do you have an algae prob right now?

Bummer, but if the tank is stable again, you can try reinoculating with pods. They tend to be cyclic unless you have a fuge that really suits them

Karsco,
The reason I ask is I was wondering what if anything might have been released into your tank during the move. If your tank looks healthy otherwise then it probably didn't get a toxic release like mine did.
In that case I agree with doug. Order a detrivore kit or something similar and reseed your fuge......remember to feed them if you don't heavily feed your tank. Its my experience that worms, pods etc will reproduce quickly then eat themselves to extinction in our systems. they need a steady food supply to keep thier numbers up after they have taken care of your fishy's leftovers.

i also do not have any pods. this was due to bad S.G. monitor during the first weeks of cycling. i have yet to get them going again. some people can just get them going like the plague others like me always have a problem keeping them.

Geoff, do you have a very "clean" tank? I have found there to be a balancing act between having a clean tank and having an environment where pods can thrive. You may need to reseed also, as in our closed system as soon as a plague wipes out what is there, there is nothing to "start over" with.

Thanks, guys. The strange thing is that the refugium has been up and running for almost two years. I did feed the refugium twice a week and right before the move the population of mysis and amphipods was massive. There was life everywhere you looked now it is like a ghost town.

not a clean tank by any stretch. i just accidentally killed the population of pods with shock. i still do not have any major pod predators in the tank. i will be adding a fair amount of new LR to help get them going again.
