I think I'm ready for 1st clam...

I've seen so many varieties and colors. I just know if I buy one, then I'll see another I like more. Anybody have suggestions on which species and colors they like the best. Post photos if you please.

to add to this thread... who here has a clam under lighting other then metal halides? I to would love to get a clam, but want to see what other light requirements are needed before proceeding.

I have a Squamosa and a Derasa clam under PC's and they are doing great. 55 G reef tank with 520W PC lighting over it. Although I am upgrading to MH right now because I'm getting more into SPS corals. My clams have been under the PC lighting for over 9 months and have grown steady since I got them. They also require lots of calcium. Squamosa clams seem to do the best under lower light conditions from evrything I've read so far, but they still do require a fair amount of light.

Hommeworks, that is what I thought too. Just when I would get the prettiest clam I thought, another would come along that was even nicer. It does happen. I haven't found any 2 patterns to be exact, similar but never exact. So make room as I have done. I have my clams {all 13}under 3 250w 65k iwasakis and they have done very, very well. I have{2} crocea,{9} maxima, a derasa and a squamosa. I think they are all nice in their own way as the dfifferent species have different patterns. They are calcium hogs and if smaller than 2" they need to be feed supplementally. I feed DT's and the new product KoralvitF from clamsdirect. This product is great and geared towards clams and their own basic needs, food wise. Here are my 2 crocea.
