flame scallops


what are the requirments for keeping flame scallops? are there any problems/cons to keeping them?

These animals do not have a good track record in captivity. From what I know or think I know, they are filter feeders that require dosing of phytoplankton like DT's. Typically they end up starving to death.

Save your money, don't buy one. Just my 2 cents.

Yup! Ditto on what has already been said! Had one in a 29 gallon reef tank over 30 years ago and it lived about six months! Maybe with DT's they live longer now but eventually will starve to death!

i think what everyone is getting at is that they require lots of feeding. you wouldn't be able to feed the tank enough to keep them healthy, and still maintain good water quality at the same time.

that's wht i have heard about them, when i thought about getting one. and shockingly that came from the lfs that was selling them!!

they told me flat out. if yo uwant good water qaulity AND you dont want the scallop to starve. dont get one.
