I just went through a bout with RTN/SDR recently. I attribute it to recent overfeeding and an increased level of phosphates.
Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear that... we lost all of our SPS to RTN awhile ago. It's heartbreaking. I wonder why that one frag?

a frag that grew pretty much into a nice colony size, growth was great in the beginning, slow a bit ( i hear blue-tips are slow growers)was a thumb size frag, grew into a hand size piece. only thing i can directly relate to this , is a week or so the coral "fell "into some mushrooms,i righted it, and about a week later, i noticed some dead spots/areas, the night b4 it totally died,i planned on fragging the outermost two sections, in hopes of saving it , the next morning, i noticed one of the two heads was sloughing off(and bare) and the other head died off right after(in a hr). could it having fallen into some mushrooms ,stung/stessed it that much , to wipe out the whole thing? the entire coral was not near the mushrooms, i would say only 30% of it touched them,,,,(short time too)

did you put it back in the same place. acros grow to enviroment so the stress brought on by the mushrooms and perhaps changeing envirmental condtions could have brought on rtn. just a thought though nothing conclusive

Yup, same spot ,,,,,BTW: lastest info on the tank (shame on me )Alk and calc levels were really low,,,(i had run out of Alk test kit) when i started to test all again , i think i found the problem. getting them back up now, testing daily til i get it back in sync. also more often/more water changes are in order,,,tend to think i did this, darn thing ,everything in the tank was doing great, till the SPS thing happened. so much for the "watch" the tank thing,,, my fault, I'm sorry, shame on me,,,plus, i'm switching all my test kits over to Salifert as i run out of my old stuff,,,

I noticed with my blue tips that bare finger touching is bad news. There are white spots left where my flesh touched the coral. Now I wear platex gloves when moving, or retrieving after a snail knocks it down. Stupid me, I never permanently fasten my corals.

125G's RTN is rapid tissue necrosis. Usually brought on by being introduced into a system or water levels getting out of wack or some induced stress these corals are prone to not recover from. The tissue of the sps corals just peels away from the skeleton. SDR is shut down repsonse. Eric Borneman's book is great for explaining these problems with "usually" sps tanks. The shut down response is where the sps coral just stops thriving and does not grow and will usually go into decline and then either bleach or just die. I have had RTN but never SDR and this may be better explained by someone with more experience with it. I believe though this is what it is.
I have never experienced the touching problem. I did have a acropora robusta I got in a trade and the previous owner told me he experienced this with this stag but when I got it I never have.
Junkzoo, I love the Salifert tests. I bet you will too. After doing them a time or 2 they are great. Good luck with the frags left.
