Question

Magnesium

If I only do water changes approx. once a month, should I pay any attention to the magnesium levels in my tank? Or any other trace elements? I am dosing the two part B-Ionic supplement to maintain Calcium and Alk levels. Does the B-Ionic also replenish trace elements?

Thanks,

Sean

Quote from ESV's website
B-Ionic Calcium Buffer System does not contain phosphates or nitrates. In addition to supplying highly concentrated calcium and carbonate alkalinity required for calcification, B-Ionic Calcium Buffer System also provides all other important major, minor, and trace elements in the proper ratios to duplicate the composition of natural seawater. As a result, B-Ionic Calcium Buffer System will help restore inorganic ions lost from protein skimming and help maintain the ionic balance of the aquarium water."

I use Seachem's ReefComplete, even though it has magnesium in it my tanks sucks it up more quickly than ReefComplete can add it. I bought some Epsom salt at the drug store "Magnesium Chloride". It took about 5 tablespoons of this stuff to bring up my magnesium level. Seeing a big increase in coraline algea now. Salifert makes a magnesium test kit.

Thumbs up

Thanks Jimbo.

Gee, a quote right from ESV's website.....who woulda thunk

(I'm an idiot)

I'll get the test kit to see where my levels are at. In case my tank is also consuming the magnesium faster that the B-Ionic can relenish it.

Thanks again,

Sean
