Question

Kent Turbo Calcium

I have noticed a somewhat gradual decline in calcium levels in my tank over the last 2 months. 480 to 350. I decided to try Kent Turbo Calcium (dry pellets) and Kent SuperBuffer (to raise pH and alk.). Well I mixed both in a glass of distilled water and added to my sump. In a few minutes my tank clouded up really white and is just starting to clear after 20 mins.
Is this normal? I'm thinking "I just killed everything"!

I'm not familiar with the Kent products but I do use B-Ionic and I'm sure the methods for dosing are close. I use them daily to maintain alk and ca levels. The alk part will cloud the tank but only for a few minutes. I add it in the morning before the lights come on and in the sump where there is good water flow. You might check the Kent instructions but B-Ionic A/B is NOT supposed to be mixed together before adding to the tank.

I use them products. You want don't want to mix them together. They will bond and you sand will turn hard as rock. Use one in the morning and the other one at night. calcium in the morning and ALk in the night. calcium and Alk often fight against each other so take your time in getting the right set up

. Get a calium reactor. SO easy to use and in the long run will be cheaper.

I must agree about the calcium reactor. The more I hear from people that have them the more I want one. Additives can get expensive.

Unhappy

The cheapest I have seen one new as a complete unit is $475 and the cheapest I have seen one used as a complete unit is $300. I will have to wait a few months.
