I am in the process of plumbing and filling (for the first time) a 190 gallon tank. I have a 4-stage RO/DI unit from Aquatic Reef Systems (outstanding unit, I strongly recommend it) that I plan on using to make top-off water. But the sheer amount of water that would be wasted if I used an RO/DI unit to make the first 200-220 gallons of water (accounting for the sump) is more than a little worrisome. [I don't have the facilities to save the "waste water."]
I was wondering whether anyone has tried using the Tap Water Filter (
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...=6&pCatId=4484) to make water for their reef tank. I realize that I will need to get a couple of extra refill catridges but I think the savings in terms of wasting water (and not taking 2-3 days to fill the tank) may be worth it

I plan on using it just for the initial water and then to have as a backup device.
Are there any concerns or problems with using just DI water for the initial set up?
Thanks.
