Alk

Hi All Just one quick question what is the ideal Alk for a reef tank in KH (ppm). Ok two questions Opinions on the quick dip tests. I had some give to me to test by the LFS and wondered how accurate they are.

Alk depends on what you keep. I think softies like leathers do best in 7-9 dkh range, while hard corals seem to do better in the 10-14 dkh range.

As for the kits, I doubt they are any good, but that is just a guess.

The box said "Use Win 95 or better", I chose better so I run OS/2!

3-5 me/l is good for any corals and coraline algae. A higher alkalinity prevents ph fluctuations which stresses reef inhabitants.
