Clown eggs

Morning all,

Yesterday, my Ocellaris clowns finly laid eggs. Last year at this time the now male was at death's door becasue the now female beat on him for about 4 months (after previously living together in harmony for 8 months)

The pic isnt very good but they laid the eggs on the underside of a torch coral. I'll try to get a better one tonight (when the torch is retracted) and replace this one.

Hi bill
Cool eggs, I hope my clowns will mate any tips or does nature just have to run it's coarse?
I put in a new clown in my tank and the original one has been picking on the new one, hopefully they will settle down though in time not sure how long that could take though.

looking good, soon you will be a proud papa

No special tips, it just happens if it's gonna happen.

You'll notice the parents aren't in the pics, that's because clowns are notoriously bad first time parents. they should be in there fanning the eggs and protecting them.

If they do hatch, I'm sure the others in the tank will have a feast.

My clowns have never been bad parents ... even their first time ... they always attended to the eggs and protected them from day one. My pair are over 7 years old and each time they protected their egg batch vigorously. They currently lay eggs around once every 2 weeks.

The hard part is raising them. You pretty much need a full blown 10 gallon set up tank with special considerations to ensure your babies will thrive instead of becoming fish food once they hatch.

Wow Bill! Way kewl. Hopefully they'll get a chance to hatch (that is if something doesn't eat them, including the pround parents ) but that's all secondary at this point. They did it!!!
