I hate - corals
I'm having a day! Soooo, I thought I might as well share.
My number one pet peeve - corals! No, not the animals but the word itself. How it's just thrown out there. For example:
All of my corals eat brand X and they are doing great.
What kind of lighting do corals like?
Well, I haven't done a water change since Moses and all my corals are growing like weeds.
That one word covers such a multitude of different animals with different requirements, it's mind boggling!

but coral is so much easier to spell than the specific type of coral. Anyway isn't that all that goes in a reef tank is corals, fishies and those lil crawly things that eat the algae

Cool! Jerel's gonna teach Taxonomy 101 so we can identify our corals!
And the class will only be $225, but it won't be taught on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Every other Tuesday he'll be busy and Wednesdays are on a reserve only basis...but I think it's full.

Ok Jerel; let's examine this comment of yours a little more closely. Lumping corals together with the type of food they eat seems to be making you peevish
Let's look at say, SPS corals and phytoplankton. Both of these are rather popular these days. Unfortunately, SPS corals don't make use of phyto do they? So saying that you are feeding phyto and that your SPS are growing like weeds, really may have no correlation. I know the talk is that phyto feeds zooplankton in our tanks that in turn the SPS may feed upon, but the truth , as I understand it, is that there is not much of a population of zooplankton in our tanks at all. So the phtyo may just be an expensive way to pollute our tanks and make the skimmer work overtime. At least if all we are trying to feed is SPS.
Just rambling here...I need more caffeine
Alice
